My first pumpkin carving!

I’m kind of a Fall Hater….not because I really hate Fall, but because I don’t fall (!) for the propaganda and fun of Fall. I see Fall as an omen of WINTER and darkness and cold and sickness (I have a curse to get every cold bug that comes within a mile radius of me it seems). Even more, I see fall as the end to the care free days of Summer – a time for homework and long nights in the lab.

Nonetheless, I carved my first pumpkin last weekend and it was pretty sweet!

It may sound weird that I’ve never done it before, but my mom always told me it was too messy. Therefore we painted designs on the pumpkins instead.

Now that I’m a 23 year old woman, it was time to get down and dirty!

I went for the classic scary jack-o-lantern paradigm.

My buddies were much more ambitious with their designs. Here we are with our carving devices : )

And when life gives you pumpkins, you CAN’T throw away the seeds. We roasted these babies with tons of spices (we had a sweet and a caliente batch) and they were delicious.

So, while I’m still terrified that winter is nie (!!!), my heart softened a little bit for the season that is autumn. Hopefully the warmth lasts!

One More Time!

So, over the last couple months I’ve been a traveling fiend it seems! It’s been awesome to catch up with my friends that seem to be scattered around the country, but I think I’m ready to stay in one place for a little while. As a little refresher:

March 14: Birthday trip to Charleston, WV

April 16: Spring fling in Philadelphia, PA

May 18: LA/Las Vegas

and now, June 4: Charlotte, NC for a little 5 year senior trip reunion.  We’d planned on doing another camping trip, but didn’t really get our act together soon enough. So instead we hung out in Charlotte and stayed one night at the great wolf lodge in concord. It’s basically a woodsy themed hotel with a built in water park you can use! Fun stuff! And, this one slide was the most terrifying/exhilerating/awesome thing ever: Like a backward 90 degree drop into this room where you just slid around manic-ly around this funnel.

I was REALLY not looking forward to the drive (550 miles total that weekend), but luckily…these dudes were worth it! We had a weekend of belly laughs and fun ! It’s great to be around friends you’ve known for such a long time. Andrew and I have been rocking together for like 11 years now! And the rest I’ve known nearly as long .

Then and Now!

Andrew and I, 5 years ago and today!

And as for me, Yeah, I'm pretty much still a total goofball!

It’s really great to explore the world – and while I hate being separated from awesome people I’ve met in the various places I’ve lived – it’s awesome to have people to visit nearly everywhere I go! And awesome to have reasons to go back home to WV! Here’s to an even more awesome/extreme 10 year reunion!

10 Things That Made Me Happy Today!

In the spirit of staying sunny, I thought it would be good to reflect on some of my favorite moments of today:

1. Pulling in through a double open parking spot!

Yeah, I hate parking and always go for the easiest spots to get in and out of. Pulling through is the ultimate parking jackpot, especially when dealing with after work Kroger-ing madness!

2. Pretending I have jedi powers in front of automatic doors!

Yep, you have been jedi mind tricked , and yep, total nerd here!

3. A dinner full of RED! Tomato soup and stawberries! MMMMMMMMMM!

4. Girly, cotton candy, hopeless romance novels!

My future roomie is getting me in to them. Yeah, they are total fluff, but sometimes you need a little mental detox after a hard day’s work.

5. Seeing my buddy do a kick ass job on her master’s thesis defense!

She made us delicious healthy snacks too! Best buddy ever!

6. Caffeine in the bloodstream ASAP in the AM

My professor bought us all coffee this morning. My zombie-licious monday brain welcomed it with open neurons!

7. Decluttering

When I get rid of stuff I don’t need anymore, I feel like an imaginary weight has been lifted off my shoulders! I feel like I have the tendency to hoard less than a lot of people, but it still stresses me out sometimes, especially when I know I’ll be moving in a few months!

8. Those BFF’s you’ve had for 10+ years

The inside jokes and ability to just GET each other on some deep level is so comfortable, especially now that I’m in a relatively new hood! Ha, and this pic always makes me want to pee myself!

9. Reading notes from friends

My friend K sends me letters periodically and every time I reread them I smile so big! It’s great to know that people I love (even those far away) are still cheering for me.

10. ‘Blah blah blah’ by Kesha – the perfect walking home from work anthem!

I’m pretty sure I threw my 10+ years of classical music training out the window when I gave this song 5 stars on iTunes. I just think Kesha and I are kindred spirits….ok….not really. But her bitchy mental dialogue makes me happy during my commutes!

What made you smile today?!
